New Collections

We are delighted to announce that Professor James Freeman, the author of Hearts of Sorrow and Changing Identities: Vietnamese Americans, 1975-1995, has donated to the Southeast Asian Archive materials related to Vietnamese refugees and immigrants. Included are oral history notebooks and tapes of interviews used in his publications. These materials, in order to protect the privacy of the interviewees, will be restricted until 2039. Other materials include books, articles and reports authored by Professor Freeman and Nguyễn Đinh Hưu, correspondence, UNHCR and NGO documents, reports, newsletters related to refugee camps and unaccompanied minors.

Retired social worker Hach Yasumura has over 20 years of service to Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance. He recently donated five boxes of materials on Southeast Asian refugees and immigrants to the Archive, covering the late 1970s through the 1990s.

Particularly valuable are items from the 1970s and early 1980s, periods that predate the establishment of the Southeast Asian Archive.
