NEH Grant

We have wonderful news to report! The Southeast Asian Archive's application to the National Endowment for the Humanities has been successful. We have been awarded $207, 849 to process archival collections and to create a web resource of 5000 items from the collection - 4000 pages of text and 1000 visual items - designed for K-14.

Among the archival collections to be processed are the SEARAC and Radio Free Asia collections. A reorganization of the ephemera, periodicals and journal articles files will be included as well.

A Board of Scholarly Advisors, headed by UCI Assistant Professor of Asian American Studies Linda Võ, will advise the library on the content of the web portal. Other members of the Board are Professor Hiền Đúc Dỗ, from California State University San Jose, Professor Nien-Chu (Peter) Kiang from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and Deborah Granger, History and Social Science Curricula Coordinator for the Orange County Department of Education.

Work on the grant is expected to begin in August 2003.
