Rancho Santiago College Intern: Tung Cao

The Southeast Asian Archive has been very fortunate to have the services of Mr. Tung Cao from the Library Technology program at Rancho Santiago College for six weeks of the Fall Quarter. Mr. Tung served as an intern and worked on the SEA Archive's Serials List, focusing on correct entry and subject categories for the Vietnamese language titles, and on processing ephemera.

Mr. Tung re-entered the United States in 1992. Twenty-five years previously he graduated from Indiana University, majoring in Instructional Systems Technology. Lately he has returned to school again, to "his daughters' college," as "this information era has spurred us to pursue life-long learning and self-instruction." He enjoyed his internship at the SEA Archives in which he feels his "heart and mind massaged by the documents that reflect both wretchedness and achievement" of his fellow boat people. Even though his internship is over, Mr. Tung continues to volunteer his time working with materials in the Archive.

Mr. Tung is a talented musician and photographer. He plays the cello with the Vietnamese American Philharmonic Association, Bellflower Symphony Orchestra, and has performed in Orange County, San Jose, and Washington D.C. His photographs of Vietnam will be exhibited at UCI' s Lunar New Year Celebration.
