Quang X. Phaïm’s A sense of duty: My father, my American journey tells the story of the author’s experiences coming to the United States in 1975 as a refugee at the age of ten with his mother and sisters, his life in Southern California and term of duty as a marine aviator during the Gulf War. His father, a South Vietnamese fighter pilot, remained in a Vietnamese reeducation camp until he was able to join his family in the early 1990s. This book is a tribute to his now deceased father and his own personal story of coming to grips with his refugee background, the military, and war.
