LSTA Grant

I am delighted to announce that the Southeast Asian Archive has received a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant for fiscal year 2002-2003. LSTA is a federal grant program adminis- tered by the State Librarian. The $65,540 award will be used to process thirteen archival collections focused on Southeast Asian refugee communities in California. Finding aids for the processed collections will be searchable in the Online Archive of California (OAC) as well as by records in the online Antpac and Melvyl catalogs.

The thirteen collections that will be processed are: California Refugee Forums Records, 1988-2001; Orange County Social Services Refugee Resettlement Agency (OCSSA) Records, 1982-1990; Van Leâ Papers, 1975-1999; Gayle Morrison Papers, 1975-1990s; The Government of Free Vietnam materials, 1995-1999; Ly Kien Truc Photographs of the Hi-Tek Demonstrations 1999; Southeast Asian Genetics Program (SEAGP), 1984-1991; Mitchell I. Bonner Papers & Photographs, 1975-1990s; Paul Tran Papers, 1986-1998; Brigitte Marshall Papers, 1980s- 1990s; Robert Walsh collection on Southeast Asian Education, 1975-2001; Ephemera and Periodicals Collection, 1970s-2002. Parts of these collections include materials focused on the refugee camps in Asia, included because of the high percentage of these refugees who have settled in California. Also, many of the activists who worked in the camps and developed these collections are California citizens who continued their advocacy work in California, which is also documented.

We currently are recruiting for a Southeast Asian Archive Project Archivist. This is a one-year appointment in the Librarian Series at the Assistant or Associate rank. The position description is listed on the UCI Libraries website at: http://www.lib.uci.edu/libraries/jobs/libvac.html. Applications received by November 11 will receive first consideration, but applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.
